Emma and the Victorians

Emma and the Victorians

In her history class, Emma is studying the Victorians under the watchful eye of her teacher, the long-suffering Mr. Jenkins. If only she could be transported back in time and see what life was really like in those days .......

Magically this is exactly what happens! Emma goes to work as a scullery maid in a Victorian household and has many adventures meeting famous people of the time. Characters such as Lord Shaftesbury and his great reforms, the colourful Benjamin Disraeli and his loyalty to the Queen and Florence Nightingale with her lamp. Great achievements and advancements in medicine, industry and science and how these were shown off in the Great Exhibition of 1841. Not forgetting the great engineers George Stephenson and Isambard Kingdom Brunnel. We are even honoured by the presence of her majesty Queen Victoria herself!

Eventually, Emma returns to the twentieth Century (and Mr Jenkins) having seen and learnt much more than she ever could just by pouring over a textbook. A feast of fun, songs and sketches - this is a fascinating look at the life and times of Queen Victoria’s people. Suitability KS2
