Invaders and Settlers of Britain
(Ceasar, Alfred, Canute and Co!)
Come with us back in time to meet the Romans, Anglo Saxons and the Vikings - we tell the story of how they came to Britain, how they lived and the legacies they leave behind.
This is a fascinating look at the life and times of the great settlers between 55BC and 1066AD. We pack in lots of information, comparing and contrasting the lifestyles of these three very different ages.
Our two Roman slaves Sillius and Verisillius introduce us to a wealth of characters from the great Julius Ceasar who came, saw and conquered, to the Celts. From the Picts and Scots for whom Hadrian built his wall to the Druids and the legendary Queen Boudicca or Queen Bodaccia as the Romans called her!
Next we come to the dark ages and we meet the hilarious Anglo Saxon farmers who came over from Denmark and Germany and with Hengist and Horsa who came to help King Vortigen fight the Picts and Scots (yes them again!). We learn how they decided to stay and settle and how we get the name England from Angle land and the Saxon provinces of Essex, Wessex, Sussex and Middlesex.
And finally a very noisy bunch of people ...... the Vikings! (Who did NOT wear horns on their heads!) We meet the Berserks, and look at the story of King Alfred -the one who burnt the cakes! (Well what can you expect if you've spent all morning running away from marauding Vikings?) as well as lots and lots more.
A thousand years of history in an hour!!!!!!
